Good question. 10.6 works fine on 32bit machines.
However, due to the lack of carbon support, it will not work out of the box on the 64bit perl. For a simple work-around, see this bug:

I am currently looking at ripping out the Carbon code, but this will mean I have to drop 10.4 support.
